It is a species of psychedelic mushroom whose main active compounds are psilocybin and psilocin. It is one of the most active tryptamine-bearing fungi, producing up to 1.8 percent dry weight psilocybin, 0.5 percent psilocybin, and 0.4 percent dry weight baeocystin, totaling around 1.1 percent psilocybin, and 0.15 percent psilocybin. It belongs to the family Hymenogastraceae in the order Agaricales.
